The flamboyant full LED rear lights in L design and the vertical reflectors lend the tail section an additional measure of sporting flair. A mighty rear diffuser in black high-gloss with striking twin tailpipes in chrome complete this impression.
M leather steering wheel.
The M leather steering wheel with shift paddles and contoured thumb rests provides a direct, athletic steering experience and maximum control. The integrated multifunction enables the operation of various multimedia and assistance systems. The red M1/M2 buttons can be used to access two preset M Drive configurations.

The illuminated M gear selector switch features an M specific switch pattern and excellent operability. In manual "S" mode, the driver can shift gears manually using the selector lever or the gearshift paddles; in "D" mode, shifting occurs automatically. The Drivelogic rocker switch makes selection of three M specific shift programmes possible.

The BMW X4 M40i is powered by a three-litre inline 6-cylinder petrol engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology. With an output of 260 kW (354 hp) and a maximum torque of 500 Nm, it has a sporty driving performance. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. The BMW X4 M40d comes with a 6-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 240 kW (326 hp) and a maximum torque of 700 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
M Sport suspension.
M Sport suspension is notable for a more dynamic suspension with tighter damper settings. It also features a moderately higher spring constant and harder stabilisers. Combined together, they result in an even more direct suspension design, which enables a distinctly sporty driving style.
8-speed Steptronic Sport Transmission.
The 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission offers incredibly sporty gear changes. Whether automatic or manual using the selector lever or gearshift paddles – for comfortable coasting or incredibly dynamic driving. In SPORT mode and with the selector lever in the left-hand S/M position, the gear shifts are configured for the maximum performance.
Variable sport steering.
The variable sport steering with Servotronic creates a direct and agile steering response and ensures that less physical effort is required to turn the wheel. It reacts to the angle of the steering wheel with varying steering ratios. This improves handling when driving more dynamically and reduces the effort needed to steer when parking and turning.
M sport differential.
The M sport differential optimises traction and driving stability when changing lanes or accelerating out of a bend, when taking bends at high speeds or on different road surfaces. Traction is optimised with the help of an electronically operated device that reduces the difference in revolution speed between the rear wheels.
M Sport brake.
The M Sport brake has four-piston fixed calipers at the front and single-piston floating calipers at the rear in Blue metallic (optionally in Red high-gloss) with the M logo is internally ventilated and features larger brake discs to ensure an outstanding braking performance. Adapted to the vehicle's very high dynamic potential, it also allows an exceptional athletic driving style and excellent braking on wet surfaces.
